Vintage Shops in London Series: Absolute Vintage

Written by , Posted in Vintage Shops

An introduction to Absolute Vintage

In 1997, Absolute Vintage started life in Portobello Market and then expanded to the Backyard Market at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane East London. It was there that the potential of the area became apparent and Dean decided to open a shop in this up and coming area, the rest they say is history!

Absolute Vintage has always been in London – first in Portobello and then moving to East London.  Being a one man band made it hard to stay in both areas and, although Portobello still is a great area, the lure of a warm shop was no comparison to battling with the glorious English weather on the market stall.

The interview with Absolute Vintage

What does your brand stand for?

Affordable, accessible vintage accessories and clothing.

What time periods of vintage / retro clothing are offered?

Mostly 70’s and 80’s, but with many items before and after. The 90s are making a comeback right now!

Do you have designer pieces?

It’s funny, as designer brands come to our store for inspiration! So, we don’t have many brands and we don’t specifically go out looking for brands.  That said, we do have brands such as, YSL, Chanel, Burberry.

I see it that most of our pieces are designer, as there’s only one of them. Quite often too, with the brand designers coming to the store, our items are often converted or stamped with the ‘designer name’ when they get re-produced.

What is the price range of the clothing you sell?

We have dresses from £15, leather jackets from £45 and shoes and bags from £15.

Where you are located in London?

We are just off Brick Lane in London’s East end and a stone’s throw away from Liverpool Street.  Our address is 15 Hanbury Street, London, E1 6QR.

Nearby Tube and Overground Stations: Shoreditch High Street, Old Street, Liverpool Street, Aldgate and Aldgate East.
